Andrew Melton, Woodfields Farm

A visit to Woodfields Farm on Open Farm Sunday (12th June) offers a great opportunity to discover more about the story behind our food and so much more. As a share farm, Woodfields is run by Andrew Melton and neighbouring farmer. Woodfields Farm is also a member of LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), the organisers of Open Farm Sunday. LEAF is a registered charity that assists farmers and producers, to manage their farms as efficiently and sustainably as possible which as a result, helps them to produce good food with environmental care.

Andrew works in Norfolk as an agronomist and regional sales manager for Frontier Agriculture, a role that involves providing advice to other farmers on all aspects of crop production. Frontier is one of the principal sponsors of Open Farm Sunday. Andrew is passionate about helping consumers have a better understanding of how farmers like him produce safe, sustainable, local and wholesome food for us to enjoy – which is just one of the reasons he opens Woodfields Farm on Open Farm Sunday.  He also relishes the opportunity to share with visitors how he and his fellow farmers care for the countryside and wildlife that live there.

Take a guided tractor and trailer ride around the farm and discover for yourself the four habitats on the farm, including the pond and the conservation meadow with its wild orchids. Find out how Andrew cares for the hedges and you may even get a glimpse of the badgers and deer that live on the farm too. But it will probably be a little early to see Bertie the Barn Owl and his owlets!

There will be lots to see and do for the whole family, with activities for the children, games and quizzes and Norfolk food like local popcorn and ice cream and a hog roast to enjoy. This event is an excellent example of how farmers care about both the food they produce and the countryside and wildlife and what you can discover on Open Farm Sunday.
