Denys Fell, Densholme Farm

A visit to Densholme Farm on Open Farm Sunday (12th June) offers a great opportunity to discover the story behind your food and so much more. Run by Denys Fell and Paul Hanson, Densholme Farm is also a member of LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), the organisers of Open Farm Sunday. LEAF is a registered charity that assists farmers and producers, to manage their farms as efficiently and sustainably as possible which as a result, helps them to produce good food with environmental care. Open Farm Sunday also helps strengthen local communities, as farmers and local organisations come together to invite the public to see for themselves how they do this.

Being part of the National Care Farming Initiative, working with the local community is important to Denys and Paul - which is why as part of their Open Farm Sunday event they are organising the Hatfield Food Festival. As well as local producers they’ve invited groups from across the East Riding to come and run stalls, selling food made from locally sourced ingredients to raise money for their various causes.

Denys and his team will be leading tours of the farm and explaining all the work they do to look after the countryside and the wildlife that live there. This includes a nationally scarce wild flower Shepherd’s Needle, the 2.5 acre woodland he has planted and the beetle banks at the centre of the fields, where wheat and wildlife crops are grown.

The day offers a great day out for the whole family with cookery demonstrations and children’s activities, to name but a few of the exciting things on offer at Densholme Farm on Open Farm Sunday.
