Jake Freestone, Overbury Farms

A visit to Overbury Farms on Open Farm Sunday (12th June) offers a great opportunity to discover the story behind your food and so much more. Run by Jake Freestone and his team, Overbury Farms is a member of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming), the organisers of Open Farm Sunday and the farm has also attained the LEAF Marque accreditation guaranteeing the farm produces good food, with care and to high environmental standards, identified in-store by the LEAF Marque logo. LEAF is a registered charity that assists farmers and producers, to manage their farms as efficiently and sustainably as possible which as a result, helps them to produce good food with environmental care.

A tractor and trailer ride around Overbury Farms on Open Farm Sunday* is a great opportunity to see a farm using technology to improve its efficiency and conserve valuable resources to run a modern, successful business.  At Overbury a team of just five run the 4000 acres, producing a range of crops including wheat, barley, feed beans, oil seed rape and grass. The farm is also home to a 1100 strong flock of sheep which is made up of North Country Mules and some home bred North Country Mules crossed with a Texel ram.

The guided tractor and trailer ride, which must be booked in advance, takes around 1.5 hours and includes the Overbury Stud, a chance to see some of the farm machinery used on the farm, the sheep and their lambs and a great overview of the whole Overbury community and of course the stunning views across the Bredon Hill. Jake and his team will explain how they also care for the countryside during the ‘conservation’ stops along the way.
